SWIM COURSE:
The swim will be held off the beach of Rocky Neck State Park in beautiful Long Island Sound. Water will be shallow enough for individuals to run through the ocean water, but the goal is to swim the entire distances. Lifeguards will be in the water to assist swimmer. On exit of the water there will be a short run up the beach to the transition "IN", shoes are permitted for this run.

If inclement weather occurs, or the ocean is unsafe to swim the swim portion will be canceled and a run / bike /run format will be put in place on race day.

BIKE COURSE:
The bike course is a flat, paved course, consisting of 1, 2, or 3 loops inside the park, depending on the age of the athlete. Athletes completing multiple loops will be marked by a volunteer after each loop completed. In transition athletes will put on shoes, helmets, and any other biking gear needed. Athletes will walk their bikes to Transition "OUT" and mount bikes when on the road. Upon completion of the bike leg, athletes must dismount bikes on road and walk bikes to transition "IN" where they will then prepare for the Run portion of the triathlon.

The 2009 bike course is much more spectator-friendly than previous years, as the athletes completing multiple loops will pass near the transition area multiple times. The course was changed to accommodate the requests of park management, so be sure to pay attention to the volunteers and signs marking the course.




RUN COURSE:
The Run Course is an out and back run on a paved, shady, trail. At the beginning of the Run course there will be a fuel stop on the course there will be 4 turn around points (one for each age group clearly marked with signs and volunteers. After athletes have walked their bike into the transition area and are ready to begin the run, they will exit transition "OUT" and begin the last leg of the triathlon. At the end of the run the athletes will finish down the finish -line chute to the roars of the fans, great music, and receive their medal!!!
