General Information

This section contains information that is important to parents/guardians and to the young athletes. Reading and following these instructions will help assure that Saturday September, 13th will be a safe and enjoyable day for kids and adults alike.

Directions

Exit 72 off I-95: Follow the turnpike connector south to Route 156. Turn left and take Route 156 east for 1/4 mile to the park. The park street address is 244 West Main Street (Route 156).

RACE INFORMATION

USAT MEMBERSHIP
Check in will be held at the Park on Race day. In order to keep things moving smoothly, we remind you that you must have signed a race waiver online as well as joined your child in the USAT. Please bring their membership card. Children that are not active members of the USAT or that have forgotten their membership cards will be required to sign-up again at registration and pay the $5.00 fee. USAT Membership Formm

Race-day Registration
it is recommended that you register well in advance of race day, as the race registration will close when the number of participants reaches 250. Registration fees will increase to 30.00 on the race day. Registration will be available on the day of the race, from 7:00am 8:00am, and will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Signs will direct you to the registration table. Race Registration Form

Race Day Check-in
You will have to check in for the Mighty Kids Triathlon on race day to pick- up your , timing chip, T-shirt, race packet and goody bag. Check in will be held on the morning of the event, beginning at 7:00am. In order to keep things moving smoothly, we ask that you check in at least 1 hour prior to your childŐs posted start time. Signs will direct you to the check in Table.

Body Marking
After checking in, your child should go to the body marking area (signs will direct you). Your childŐs race number (found in race packet) will be marked on his/her/ leg and arm. These markings will be used to identify your childŐs race number at the start of the swim.

Transition Area
The transition area is located in the Parking Lot across from the registration. Individual spots will not be assigned, but signs will clearly designate the areas reserved for each age group. Athletes should have their equipment (i.e. bike, shoes, etc) set up at least 1 hour prior to the assigned start time. In order to make sure everyone has room in the transition area, each athlete should use only the minimum amount of space required to place their equipment. When the race begins no parents or guardians are permitted in the Transition Area and finish Corral except for special considerations. If you have special needs please designate that during check-in. Volunteers will be present to assist the athletes and to restrict access. This restriction is to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all of the athletes.

Race Start
We will be starting the triathlon by age groups beginning with the youngest 6yr-8yr at 9:00am. The following table shows the estimated (subject to updates) start times for each of the four age groups.

Athletes will be called form the staging area to the swim start 15 minutes prior to their start time. Swim starts will be clearly marked by Flags representing their swim cap color.

Transition Area:
This will be a large area designated by signs, and brightly colored fencing. This area is for athletes to stage their equipment (bike, helmets, shoes, etc). From 9am to noon ONLY PARTICIPANTS and VOLUNTEERS will be allowed in transition area. There will be one entrance to transition and one exit to transition to keep the area safe for the athletes. The Exit and Entrances will be clearly marked "IN" and "OUT".

Swim Course:
The swim will be held off the beach of Rocky Neck State Park in beautiful Long Island Sound. Water will be shallow enough for individuals to run through the ocean water, but the goal is to swim the entire distances. Lifeguards will be in the water to assist swimmer. On exit of the water there will be a short run up the beach to the transition "IN", shoes are permitted for this run.

If inclement weather occurs, or the ocean is unsafe to swim the swim portion will be canceled and a run / bike /run format will be put in place on race day

Bike Course:
The bike course is a flat, paved course, consisting of 1, 2, or 3 loops of the park. Athletes completing multiple loops will be marked by a volunteer after each loop completed. In transition athletes will put on shoes, helmets, and any other biking gear needed. Athletes will walk their bikes to Transition "OUT" and mount bikes when on the road. Upon completion of the bike leg, athletes must dismount bikes on road and walk bikes to transition "IN" where they will then prepare for the Run portion of the triathlon

Run course:
The Run Course is an out and back run on a paved, Shady, Trail. At the beginning of the Run course there will be a fuel stop on the course there will be 4 turn around points (one for each age group clearly marked with signs and volunteers. After athletes have walked their bike into the transition area and are ready to begin the run, they will exit transition "OUT" and begin the last leg of the triathlon. At the end of the run the athletes will finish down the finish -line chute to the roars of the fans, great music, and receive their medal!!!

POST EVENT

After the Race there will be great food and music in the park. Stick around and enjoy all that Rocky Neck State Park has to offer!

AWARDS

Each participant will receive a finisherŐs medal upon completion of the race!! Awards for top 3 finishers in each age group both Male and Female will be given out at the completion of the entire race. Please stick around for the award ceremony, good food, and good Music!
